How Long It Actually Takes to Write a Mini Book
And How to Find that Time in Your Busy Schedule
Hey Revenue Writers,
Over 80% of Americans want to write a book, but few actually ever do.
Reason?
Most of us have our lives FULL. Like Baby Huey on Thanksgiving Day full. It feels like, “How will I ever have time to write a book?”
I’ve written and published 30+ books, many of them were Mini (try saying that 5x fast), half or so were not.
So I know how difficult and time consuming a book can be.
How Long It Takes to Write a Mini Book
I also know how quickly a book can be written.
If I know my topic (which why would you write a book if you don’t know your topic well… I’ve done it, its super hard and took me 6 months) and I create a solid outline, it takes me about 14 hours to write a Mini Book polished draft.
So even if it takes you 2x longer, it is a total of 28 hours to get it done.
Why Writing a Mini Book is Worth the Investment
While most business building strategies work,
You can DM 100 people and probably get 1 lead
You can build a funnel, send traffic and get a sale
You can run a webinar, get friends and affiliates to tell people about it and get people on it
While these strategies are all good and work, they don’t compound.
This week I commented on a LinkedIn influencers post talking about commenting 2 hours a day as a good strategy.
The thing I dislike about that strategy is that if I stop commenting, if I stop posting on LinkedIn, I’ll be forgotten and the business stops moving in days (if not hours).
It requires constant input.
Building a Mini Book Flywheel does not… it compounds.
If I have a Mini Book sitting on Amazon, gathering reviews, changing lives,
the book gets me leads for my webinar
it builds credibility with people so they are more willing to become clients
my social media posts and profile point towards (even if indirectly) towards the book
A Mini Book can be written quickly, but the thing people often miss is that is supercharges everything you do.
Posts are easier to write because you have the literal book on your point of view (POV). You have a great lead magnet to give those people that answer your DM’s, etc.
This week I wrote an email in 10 minutes and pasted an excerpt of Mini book Flywheel into it to make a long form email.
It’s like the old saying of “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe”. If you start by writing a Mini Book, the time you invested will speed up and make everything else more effective.
So my challenge to you is find the time to write the Mini Book.
How to Speed Up Writing Your Mini Book
There are things you can do to make writing a Mini Book much faster.
Choose a person, who the book is for, based on “who you were” in the past.
Make it about a problem you faced and know others face.
Make the book about a POV (point of view) that will make their life so much better if they knew this solution you ended up using to solve this problem. (for example I struggled to grow my business until I wrote Mini Books… thats why I write about it)
W’s (who, what, where, why, who, and how of your topic are the chapters)
Sequential (steps to take to solve the problem)
Outline the whole book this way BEFORE you start writing.
Guarantee you’ll get your book done by posting publicly you are writing a book and that you will finish the first draft in the next month (this accountability is HUGE!)
Message me and let me know and I’ll hold you accountable via messaging here on Substack.
Write to connect the dots of the points and subpoints using the 1-3-1 template (I have a template, ask and I’ll send it to you)
Want to go even faster use my Ghost Writing GPT that writes the 1-3-1 cadence to you after you ramble with your built in microphone for 2-5 minutes per subpoint
If you do those things and set aside 1hr a day you’ll have a book in less than 30 days… possibly as soon as 2 weeks.
If you want to go faster, set aside 2hrs a day.
Hope that helps because I want to see your Mini Book!

P.S. Just saw Mini Book Writing is a #1 Best Seller on Amazon & Mini Book Flywheel is at #4 in the same category. I love seeing multiple books together like this.
I assume you all are the reason for this, because I have zero paid promotions going. THANK YOU!
