Hey Mini Book Masters,

I’ve edited my last two books using Chat GPT as a part of the process.

The GPT prompt I’ve created took me 20+ hours of fighting with Chat GPT to figure out. Any changes I make to it in the future I’ll update here for you as well.

There are benefits to using a human editor, but I set out to dial in my own Chat GPT editor so I wouldn’t have to spend $1000+ for a copy editor on each book.

Quick review on the types of editors. (there are more, but come on 3 big buckets of editing is enough)

Developmental Editing - does the story and book make sense as a whole

Copy (Line) Editing - Line editors focus on the style of writing, rather than larger issues like structure or character development in fiction.

Proofreading - Proofreaders focus on spelling and grammar errors.

If you follow the Mini Book Straitjacket method of writing you won’t need a developmental editor.

I’ve designed the straitjacket to make sure your structure is built into the outline. Editors often are charged to edit out 10% of your content. The way I have you write with the 3 Course Meal Writing Framework (1-3-1) makes sure you can’t overwrite.

All that is left is copy editing and proofreading.

I designed the Mini Book Editing Assistant to guide the author through self editing, not to just do it for you.

It finds and guides you through,

  1. Confusing Sentences

  2. Repetitive Words

  3. Filler Words

  4. Unnecessary words

  5. Cliches

  6. While automatically fixing obvious spelling and grammar mistakes

This prompt presents you with options for re-wording and substitutions.

I got so frustrated when I’d just have Chat GPT do the edit because it’d swap out words and phrasing that was needed for the text.

The Mini Book Editing Assistant prompt is designed to present you with 3 options for each sentence it believes needs changed.

This was a game changer for me and allows me to self edit a chapter in a few minutes with extreme precision.

I hope it helps you in your writing journey save thousands of dollars on editing!

This has also allowed me to eliminate the use of ProWriting Aid or Grammarly for my books.

Enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Copy and paste the instructions into a new Chat GPT conversation (I used GPT-4o)

  2. It will ask you for your chapter

  3. Copy and paste the content from your chapter

  4. Follow the prompts

  5. If issues arise talk to it like you would an assistant to clarify and give further instructions to
